Yes, you can exercise after Botox, however, as a rule of thumb, it is suggested to wait at least 24 hours before exercising. 

Dangers to Exercising after Botox 


There are 3 main reasons why experts don’t recommend exercising too soon after Botox. 

  • Exercise Increases Blood Flow 
  • When your blood flow increases the neurotoxin serum proteins metabolize faster which can alter any skin tighten effects. 
  • Increase blood flow can also cause swelling and bruising if you are susceptible
  • Exercise requires a lot of movement 
  • Lots of movement is the last thing you want after Botox. Botox injections are strategically placed to garner the best results possible. Increased movement can cause the serum to move from the intended injection site altering results.
  • Exercise puts pressure on the injection site 
  • Putting excess pressure on the injection site can cause some pain and discomfort.

There are many things other than exercising that you should avoid after Botox.

  • Sleeping on your Face
  • Drinking Alcohol
  • Excessive Sweating
  • Consuming too much caffeine
  • Exposing yourself to extreme hot or cold temperatures
  • Taking a hot shower or bath 
  • Rubbing or adding any pressure to the area 
  • Applying tretinoin (Retin-A) products 
  • Getting a spray tan 
  • Getting a Facial
  • Applying makeup

What Exercises Can You Do After Botox?


It’s best to refrain from exercising for at least 7 days. On average it can take 3-7 days for Botox injections to take full effect so it’s important not to engage in any strenuous activity. 

If you’re like me and staying still makes you stir crazy you can go on a nice walk. Walking is a great low-impact cardiovascular exercise and allows you to soak up some sun and breathe in some fresh air if engaging outdoors.  

After the 7 days have passed try to ease yourself back into your fitness routine. Be sure to actively monitor your health and stop exercising and document any problematic symptoms or side effects and share them with your primary care physician immediately should they arise.
